Force Windows Explorer to always use List view

I dislike the way Windows decides for you which file view is most appropriate. It will switch between List, Details, Icons, Titles etc.

I want Windows Explorer to always choose List view. This use to be easy in older versions of Windows but it no longer works in Windows 7 or 10 at least I do not know how.

If you are not against using PowerShell see windows – Changing to List View in File Explorer – Everywhere – Super User.

It still works in my Windows 7! Bring up Windows Explorer, click on View at the top, and pick what you want from List, Details, Large Icons, etc.  Then click on Refresh.  If you want to apply this to all folders, while there in Windows Explorer click on Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to all folders of this type.

Win 10 is another story as described above.  Apparently you do have to force Win 10 to do what we’ve taken for granted for so long in the older versions.

Even astrophysicist Carl Sagan when speaking astronomically used Billions, not Trillions.
