I’m trying to format a flash drive in port H:

    I get this message :

    C:>format H:
Insert new disk for drive H:
    and press ENTER when ready…
Cannot open volume for direct access.

The message gives nothing more. How can I format this disk ??

Thanks for any help … Theodore

      Formatting requires elevated privileges (UAC).
You may also need to provide extra switches if you want a non-interactive format (haven’t tried this in a while).

Explorer does not give you the option to right-click on the flash drive and format?

Read through the Help information in FORMAT /? to see applicable switches, as Paul T says.
The difficulty may be with determining which drive letter the USB Flash Drive has been assigned when you insert it into the socket.
If it has previously been formatted and has a volume name, you can bypass the need for specifying a drive letter by using the volume name instead.

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
