I am considering formatting my Windows drive for a fresh start. No major problems, just want a new slate. I have MS Office 2010 installed on the C drive and if I format it, all will be lost.My copy of Office came with 3 licenses and 1 was used on the original install. If I reinstall in the same PC after my format and reinstall if Windows 7, will I have to burn a 2nd license to activate it or will the 1st license still apply as it is on the same PC?

    Thanks

      ldb,

The same license would apply. You can actually move licenses to new machines with the retail versions. What I would do it Uninstall Office before the format as this may register with MS (not sure but it can’t hurt). HTH

Instead of the clean install you might check into In Place Upgrade. That is a bit like the repair install in XP.

I was also considering the no format reinstall if that is what you meant. I never owned XP and went directly from Win 98 to 7. Not sure that would fix the few annoyances I have.

Before you do anything, make sure you have the license key written down, so that you can reinstall it if necessary. This will allow you to reinstall MS Office using the same license you are currently using.

You can use Magical Jelly Bean to get the license key. (http://www.magicaljellybean.com/)

If you do not want to risk it, just use KMS activator. Just be sure to download it from a reputable place so you dont get malware.

      BubTub,

Please note that the KMS (an official MS product) only applies to Volume Licensed copies of MS products. HTH
