Could you please tell me how to format bullets so that the bullet in the second level lines up with the text in the first level and so on? example:
* this is a test of the first level
+ this is a test of the second level
^ this is a test of the third level

AskWoody LoungerJuly 16, 2003 at 12:50 pm #694026What you are looking for is called Outline Numbered (Format | Bullets and Numbering). One of the standard options is outline numbering using symbols instead of numbers. You can Customize any of the formats to meet your needs, including changing the specific outline “number” at each level. One is specifically set up to use symbols. Once you have selected the Outline Numbered tab and the specific “number” style, select Customize. Select the level you want to change. Then select the drop down menu Number style and select New Bullet. This will allow you to set the specific symbol that you want for each level.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 16, 2003 at 12:54 pm #694029Hi Susan,
Format each paragraph (or better, its style) to have hanging indentation by the distance you want each level to indent (for example 0.5″), and to have a left indentation equal to the left indentation of the previous paragraph plus the hanging indentation. Moreover, set a (left aligned) tab in each paragraph at the same position as the hanging indentation, i.e. left indent+hanging indent. For example, with indents of 0.5″:
Paragraph Left indent Hanging indent Tabstop 1 0.0″ 0.5″ 0.5″ 2 0.5″ 0.5″ 1.0″ 3 1.0″ 0.5″ 1.5″
