    What does the + sign do when it follows an = sign in a formula such as this: =+N3*U3?

      It does nothing.

      In Lotus 1-2-3 formulas begin with a +
      To make it easier for Lotus users to convert to Excel Microsoft decided to let users enter formulas in Excel beginning with + but then Excel automatically converts it to =+
