Can anybody recommend a good FTP software for my PC’s? Do not want to us WSFTP or Directconnect. Need to fine something that will handle large over 30mg of file space.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMay 16, 2006 at 4:22 pm #1012410I’m a FileZilla fan myself…..however…..it requires that you specify which Server Port you are logging onto
My ISP (for example) has variable Ports used for FTP. In other words, setting to Port 21 (the default FTP port) – or any other specified Port for that matter, results in a logon failure. In that case, I use WS_FTP LE (old software no longer available as freeware).
With that one caveat, I would also heartily recommend FileZilla.

AskWoody LoungerMay 15, 2006 at 10:09 pm #1012275Might as well drop in with this one: Core FTP LE Lite and it is free for personal use.
Been using this one for around 3 years now without any problems.Bob (the other one)

AskWoody LoungerMay 16, 2006 at 8:20 am #1012318My personal preference is to use the inbuilt command-line based http://ftp.exe that comes with Windows. I’ve tried a range of different FTP applications but always came back to basics. Of course it’s nowhere near as fancy as some of the other apps, but it’s free (with Windows), you don’t have to download or install it, and it works every time. If all else fails, it’s worth remembering.

AskWoody LoungerMay 16, 2006 at 5:56 pm #1012424Those of us with a natural propensity for writing BATch files have come to know and hate the lack of useful information which the built-in FTP program produces (no terminating errorlevel, and you have to pipe all the messages to a file and examine them after the FTP session finishes).
That said, it’s a darned sight easier than messing around with all that new-fangled GUI stuff!
John
PS In the old days I wrote a very neat BATch file to check whether there were new AV update files on a remote website (Network Associates, actually) and download only the ones which were not in my local directory. It needed about four separate (sequential) FTP sessions…

[/indent]Boy, does that sound familiar, John. When I was last employed at the television network, I had a batch file to go to McAfee, download data file updates and “push” them to all the machines in the domain that I was responsible for. I still have that batch file around and it was a LOT of NET USE and such commands. Oh, for the “old days!”

AskWoody LoungerMay 16, 2006 at 10:57 am #1012342On the few occasions I’ve need FTP I’ve used SmartFTP. It’s
for personal use and as someone who knows virtually nothing about FTP I found it easy to use. Having just checked the home page I see there is a new version out:
