I haven’t seen this addressed, nor do I see it in Ed Bott’s handy site, so I’ll pose the question.  Feel free to link to the answer if someone actually has answered it before!

I’ve noticed after the past two or three Windows 10 Pro updates (can’t give you the exact version; this is mainly on my home computer and I’m at the office when I’m thinking about it) I get a notification that “we need to finish setting up your system”.  It wants me to implement Windows Hello, OneDrive, and four other items for which I have absolutely no use.  There is no option to tell it “no, thanks, now stop bugging me!” — I can either continue or click on “remind me later”.  Later ends up being 3 days to a week.

Quite frankly, I’m getting tired of this screen.  All I want is an operating system, not all the additional stuff that Microsoft wants to add that has nothing to do with running the computer (but Linux doesn’t always work for my needs, so no need to suggest that; some programs just don’t run well — yet).  Anyway, does anyone know of a way to get this nag to stop appearing every few days?

Settings, System, Notifications & actions, uncheck Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows:

Turn off notifications about device setup

How to Turn On or Off Get even more out of Windows Suggestions in Windows 10

(This applies to versions 2004/20H2. If an older version, it could be a different option.)

Thank you for that information.  I cannot spot that switch in v1909 Home but I will bear it in mind when it is time to upgrade and Win10 is still nagging me…

I have 1909 Pro and I see a checkbox in Settings, System, Notifications & actions for
“Show me the Windows Welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested”

Maybe, this is in the Home Edition as well and maybe, unchecking that will work.

You can do it in the registry according to this article.

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UserProfileEngagement

      cheers, Paul

      On a related note, I have W10, ver 2004.

I keep getting the Windows Account Problem nag screen on both my laptops (one with W10 Home and the other with Pro). I’ve tried a bunch of things from various articles, all to no avail. Should I try the clear (uncheck) box suggestion, or is this a different problem?

Can you attach a screenshot of the Windows Account Problem nag screen you are describing?
Where do you see it? At login? Somewhere else?

          PK:

Did a screen shot and saved it in a .doc file (unsure how to upload it directly). It says the .doc file is too big. So, anyway…

it says “We need to fix your Microsoft account (most likely your password has changed). Select here to fix it in Shared experiences settings”

(how do I directly upload a screen shot?)

Just now seeing all these replies — didn’t have time to look during the short work week.  I’ll try to remember to take a look at home tonight.  Thanks to all!

        PK:

it comes as a notification, which I just cleared. Lots of articles; lots of suggestions. I’ve tried many of them. As soon as it reappears, I’ll post a screen shot, but basically it says:

        >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

        Microsoft account problem
We need to fix your Microsoft account (most likely your password changed).  Select here to fix it in…

Despite having notification unticked in Settings, the nag screen popped up again this week (after installing December cumulative update). I’m hoping I am now rid of it by following this link

      https://windowsreport.com/disable-get-more-prompt-windows-10/

which describes how to add the suggested registry items (which were missing in my registry)

On Pro this can mostly be done in gpedit.  For notifications to be (almost) completely killed, you have to go through each app in Settings and individually turn them off, the global switch won’t do it.  Same for letting apps access your account, contacts, etc.

Having said that, MS keeps playing with switches; moving them around, hiding them, changing their effects.  Every update does something to Settings and some switches revert the instant you leave them.  What that VPN switch on a spring does, IDK; the last thing anyone would do is let a standalone VPN be configured by Windows, if you can even follow their ridiculous instructions.

The real value in Pro and Enterprise is gpedit.  Without going through it making changes, Pro behaves the same as Home, which is more or less an ad server.

A good utility which also gives some nice customization is Winaero Tweaker, it’s easily reversible, there’s a portable version, reliable, been around forever, regularly updated.  It only makes changes you haven’t already made, no tangles; I use it in every Windows machine.  It may do what you want without a Settings treasure hunt; it’s still better to spend the time learning the Admin features in Pro, otherwise your issues will recur.

MS wants Windows to talk to users; users largely want it to go as far away as possible.  User’s choice.  🙂

Yes, that’s why I have Pro not Home. I prefer to be in charge as much as possible!
