every time we print something, a message appears to say that it printed ok. How can we switch this off. Someone showed us how to do it once but we are not longer in contact with them. I know it’s possible, but can’t remember how to do it.

    Thanks

Open up your printers folder (Start | Settings | Printers)
      File | Server Properties
      and deselect the notification.

      Edited to add:
This needs to be done on the machine the printer is installed on.

Curiously, though, I do not get the print message, while a colleague of mine does from the same printer. Why would that be?

        Regards,

          At a guess:
Either the printer is local to you (i.e. physically connected to your PC) or you have the messenger service disabled on your PC.

Aha! Yes – I’d disabled the messenger service on one of my trawls through the services list. And now my colleague has too!

I’m about to get a new laptop, and the idea of having to go through all these tweaks again quite frankly horrifies me…There’s no way I can remember everything I’ve done!

              Hi
Just a little aside. If you activate Client Service for Netware in one of your Network Connections, it irritatingly gets rid of the friendly welcome log-on (complete with identifying photographs and password if required) and Fast User Switching, replacing it with the boring old network log-on. Disabling CSNW via Manage/Services & Applications/Services is not sufficient : you have to uninstall it. On a stand-alone system, you’re better off removing CSNW and the accompanying protocol, leaving TCP/IP only, then through User Accounts you can choose your log-on screen.

              Cheers

If it is on a Novell network, you need to configure CSNW (Client Services for Netware) in the control panel. It may also appear as GSNW depending on how the workstation is configured.

Clear the checkbox for printing notification. This takes effect immediately.

        Hello

I’m a user with a win 2k OS on an NT, 4 I’m told, network. The print message wont ‘go away’. I’ve cleared the check box in the printer settings on my local PC (two network printers installed, laser jet and ink jet), however, the messages still pop up, this can be rather annoying if I’m working in Word (have to look at the keyboard to type), or Access (takes focus away from the database). The IT department where I work tell me it’s a ‘feature’ of our set-up and doesn’t seem to be inclined to do any thing about it, despite this message popping up on their PCs, apparently.

As this site has answered every question I’ve had so far I thought I’d see if there was a suggestion about how to solve this annoyance.

One more strange thing, the last print messenger message I had was for an item I printed about four days ago………… This delay has been consistent for a couple of weeks now. May not be relevant, but it does not encourage me that the network actually ‘knows what it’s doing’…..

Apologies for bringing my rambling complaints in here, and thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have as to a solution to this annoying little feature provided by Bill.

Are the messages from a printer on your pc to you?
