With all of the new AskWoody Loungers brought in by way of the Windows Secrets Newsletter, I get lots of questions about getting started on the site.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

One of the efforts high on the list for after the Windows Secrets Lounge absorption — swallowing the whale — is to come up with a one-stop report of your Plus status.

ManagerMarch 4, 2019 at 12:17 pm #337031For those who are completely new to bulletin boards (we were all newbies at one point, eh?) I just put together these detailed instructions:
If you want to start a new question – in WordPress speak that’s called a new “Topic,” you need to choose a forum on the right. Then on the left, scroll down until you see something like this “New Topic” box.
Type a short description of your problem in the “Topic Title” box. That’s what people who are skimming the forum will see.
Below that, type your full message.
Then at the bottom click Submit.
If you found a question (a “Topic”) and want to add something to it, you can either (1) reply to a post or (2) add something new to the end of the Topic.
If you want to reply to a post, above the post click the REPLY button.
If you want to add something to the end of the Topic, scroll down.
In either case you’ll see a box like the one in the New Reply shot:
Type whatever you’d like to include in the discussion and, at the bottom, click Submit.

AskWoody MVPMarch 4, 2019 at 12:26 pm #337040And to add to this, if you copy and paste from HTML programs such as Word,
please use the text tab to create your reply or topic and paste your HTML info into the ‘Topic Box’

Another note: The Tags box shown in @microfix’s screenshot is a topic tag – please leave the tags associated with the topic already, but relevant tags can be added where appropriate. Individual tags get separated by commas.

You can go to the test forum and start a topic… and scroll down there… if you simply want to see what it looks like. I scrolled down below the reply box that @Microfix shows, to screen shot the topic tag part you were asking about… or you can check it out next time you start a topic…

AskWoody MVPJune 16, 2019 at 6:29 pm #1845631After you select file (double click file on your computer) options will appear at bottom of post. Select ‘as attachment’, or ‘in text’ (I think that’s the term). If you select ‘in text’ you have to select a spot by clicking on that space and then click on attach. two separate operations.

As you already know, there is a “Thanks” button at the bottom of the post you want to thank. Adding a post to say thank you will likely get it deleted by a moderator. In this instance I moved your TY to this forum so I could respond without posting OFF TOPIC where it was located before. (Forum Rules)
Don’t worry about bbcodes, they are not necessary for you to post. As Woody alluded to earlier, we all took first steps. (What we step in is another matter)
It’s okay to question/comment on something IN a post, ask the HOW TO in this forum. We will get you up to knee deep in no time! (or not)
I edited your TY post and selected NOTIFY, it’s at the bottom of all your posts (before clicking SUBMIT.) Doing so will alert you to replies to any post or question you might have posted.
You must select it each time in different forums you want to be notified about.
Clear as mud?
