It’s easy to be snarky about Microsoft’s documentation — I do it all the time, when it’s warranted — but this strikes me as a genuine attempt to bot

It’s getting better, not worse….. but I still feel like I’m going through hoops to fully understand what’s in any given cumulative update.

When I look at the February 2019 cumulative update for 1809 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/448704), there’s no useful information on security updates.  It reads: “Security updates to Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows Server, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Internet Explorer, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Graphics, and Windows App Platform and Frameworks.

Okay, fine…. but what are the CVE numbers?  How many actual vulnerabilities were fixed?  Are any of them being actively exploited, so that we can assess the importance of getting updates installed sooner vs. later?

This information is all available on Microsoft’s Security Update Guide website….. but the problem is that search queries do not update the URL, so the information can’t be linked to directly.  (Come on, Microsoft, it’s 2019.  Get that fixed.)

Ideally, this information would be presented right inside the Windows Update interface.
