Good books? (Outlook 2003)

Hi folks,

Our employer (UCLA) has commanded us to switch to Outlook 2003 from our current mail client. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book for an experienced computer user(me). I’m very comfortable with Windows programs and have done some programming in Access and Word, so I’d like a book that both gives me a good introduction to Outlook and takes me a bit deeper into the program. (Such as integrating it with other Office apps, automating it, &c.) Any recommendations?

If you are looking for texts on power usage of Outlook, there are plenty of those from Google, and this Forum is usually helpful. If you are a quick study (UCLA pun intended) this O’Reilly book http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/outlookpt/%5B/url%5D has an irresistable cover and O’Reilly books are usually good. There’s also the QUE “Special Edition Outlook 2003 ” book by Patricia Cardoza, and MS Press “Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Inside Out” by Jim Boyce.

Pretty much the starter/intermediate Outlook VBA book is Outlook Programming Jumpstart by Sue Mosher, and the website for that link is also an excellent resource. A comprehensive listing of Developer books is here in Sue’s ‘Slipstick’ site; if you want to get into Outlook coding in depth, consider Randy Byrne’s book. You should also take a look at the Redemption Library, and Outlook can also be programmed via VBA through CDO, http://www.cdolive.com[/url%5D is a good starting point (that site can be very slow). If you are coming at Outlook from the Exchange Server end, also look into http://www.msexchange.org[/url%5D as a starting point.
