I’m running Win7 x64 SP1 and the latest version of Google Chrome. This morning when I opened Chrome, and went to one of my ‘Favorite’ sites, it did not remember my saved user name and password. I went to several other sites and they were all the same. No saved user name and password.

Is this something that is happening all over on Chrome, or am I the only one ? I check for my saved passwords on Chrome, and the file was empty. How can I recover my saved usernames and passwords ?

Thanks, in advance, for any and all help with this.

If I started this in the wrong place, please move it to where it belongs.

What version of Chrome are you running?
      W7 limits Chrome updates.
I’m running the same OS as you are.
My Chrome version is 109.0.5414.120 64 bit

However I don’t require Chrome to remember my passwords.
I use LastPass on all my devices.
I have the LastPass extension installed on my Chrome version on W7 and the current version requires me to enter my master password on startup and then automatically fills in any credentials required to log in to any website I have set up with a personal account, including this forum.

        DrRon,

I’m running version 109.0.5414.120  x64. I tried to update to the latest version of Chrome, but it said that i could not as the latest version was not compatable with Win7 x64. So I’m stuck with this version as I REFUSE to let go of my Win7 machine as long as it is working.

        Thanks for the tip.

          Me too.
when my W7 machine dies I’ll probably switch to an Apple machine, MacBook or iMac.
Just tired of dealing with MS OS patching and hassling.
I’ll work on an external drive adaptor to access everything I had backed up on my Windows desktop and use iCloud and Google Photos for my photos as the primary for them.

If you have a backup of C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default the passwords are stored in a file Login Data. Copy it over and you should have them back. I always backup that folder for clients using Chrome

        cyberSAR,

I tried following you link on my computer to find where my passwords are stored in Chrome. It does not exist. I spent a bit of time getting them saved again. I’m still trying to find them in Chrome.

        Maybe I’ll find them later.

Unfortunately a user data backup doesn’t usually pick up locations like that. (Programmers rarely think about user backups.)
You either need to set that location manually or do an image backup regularly.

You can get password managers that will run in W7. Then your passwords will be portable and not reliant on a browser.

      cheers, Paul
