I am trying to respond to “Another outlook/android synching question” under Fred’s article. I can’t make head or tail out of what Google has on its website after reading the warning in the newsletter :confused: about Google sync going away on Jan. 30. I have one question: will I be able to sync my google calendar with my iphone’s calendar after that date, if I buy a new iphone this summer? If there is an answer it was clear as MUD. So if anyone else read that and understands it enough to answer my question, would you?? My google calendar is now synching with my apple calendar on my current iphone. I want to know if I can make it sync if I buy a new iphone.

Obviously this does not seem like a question for this Windows Secrets site, but, it was in the newsletter and therefore I feel like yes, I can ask it here.

As I understand it, Google sync only works between Outlook and Google calenders. If you already have it installed and are using it, then you will be able to continue using it whether you have an android or iphone.. Now you mentioned iPhone in your question. Up through iPhone 4s, you could sync Outlook calendar with your iPhone directly through iTunes. But with iPhone 5, you can only sync your Outlook calendar with iCloud. But you can only do that if you first download and install an app from Apple Store that will allow you to sync Outlook calendar with iCloud calendar when you connect your iPhone to either your computer or wall plug for recharging and you have it set to sync wirelessly. This app creates a new Contacts sub-folder in Outlook (iCloud Contacts) and moves your existing contacts into it. Works perfectly once installed. Notes, reminders, music, photos, etc can still be sync’d through iTunes.

OK – very good to know, since I am looking at which new phone to get. I might just end up staying with Nokia, and looking for a symbian phone that will still work with the Nokia Suite (I have the N8 at the moment).

One thing I do is sync my Outlook contacts, and calendar with the N8 directly (via Bluetooth or cable). I would prefer to manage this on a new handset as well, so as to avoid large data charges. If I need to now start syncing with apple’s iCloud in order to do the same thing, then I will steer clear of the iPhone5 (which was looking very promising for a while back there!)

I’m having a problem with Google Sync too. I have an Android phone and when I sync my calendar, the phone reports it is synced, but my desktop calendar doesn’t update the new entries.

Any suggestions?

Google will still sync with your iPhone. Even for new users. You use CalDAV instead of google’s Exchange conduit.

OK – can you then have more than one Calendar? IE one for personal and one for business use set as per your mail accounts (personal and business e-mails)? Will this work only wit Google, or with other mail servers such as Mailenable?

My calendar seems to be syncing now, but not my Contacts. This has been a problem ever since I eliminated all the duplicate contacts on my desktop– my phone gives me the error message “too many contacts missing.”

Any ideas how I can get the two Contacts back in sync?

As far as i have conducted and worked on it that Search engines while creating a custom website design both Google and bing synchronize only between Perspective and Search engines calenders. If you already have it set up and are using it, then you will be able to proceed using it whether you have an android operating system or iphone.
