Graphics in Auto Signatures

A user within my organization would like to use a graphic in an Auto Signature similar. It looks fine in the email that she was editing, I think because it is in HTML format. I tried copying and pasting into Word, saving the word document as an RTF format in the signatures folder, and then when going into Outlook and through the signature picker, it shows up on the list as an available signatures. The problem is not getting the graphic to appear in the signature, it’s getting it to show up when we send mail externally outside the company. We can see the graphic just fine within our company, but when we sent it externally, it shows as a placeholder where the graphic used to be.

I’m trying to avoid having everyone make HTML as their default mail format b/c I know not everyone is going to want to do that, and then not all email programs support html format.

Has anyone else had experiences with this issue? Thanks!

i recommend against using images in other mail formats – only html can display them inline, RTF causes winmil.dat and with plain text it arrives as an attachment.

Thanks for the comment. I have been recommending to my fellow employee NOT to use the graphic because many users will not want to use HTML as their default mail format. However, this persons insists on using the graphic. I appreciate your feedback.

the default format doesn’t matter – as long as their mailer can read html.

most don’t like hmtl because on slow dialups it can increase connection times. Here in the US it’s not a biggy, unless connecting long distance or on a limited plan. But other parts of the world do pay by the minute for every minute on phone connections.

corp users get spoiled because they can send a 10 meg file in seconds and forget about the real world. with cable and dsl popular, home users are getting just as inconsiderate

mailbox size is an issue too. HTML takes up at least twice as much space, more if graphics are included. on a 5 meg mailbox a lot of HTML mail can be an issue.
