    HI, I have a win10 machine.

I have office 365 subscription through my school. It is an exchange one. I use the desktop version mostly.

Lately, when I try to delete old mail, the items mostly do not delete. OR I have to try 5-10 times before they delete. Sometimes, I will have 10 or more selected, but only 2-3 will delete.

This happens, whether I use the trash can icon, or right click and use ‘delete’.

    Any ideas?

Office 365 is a Microsoft cloud based email client. You need to be an Admin to delete mails off the server. Try the steps suggested here

        Not true:

Office 365 store emails on the Exchange server and can be configured automatically via Exchange server. If you make any change to the mailbox, no matter on the Outlook client or Outlook Web App, the data will sync to the cloud and sync on both devices. If you delete an email, it will be deleted from the server.

how do I set up office 365 to delete emails from server?

It used to work and still sometimes works for the topic starter here.

OK. So what do you think the problem is then?

Connection issues between Outlook computer and Exchange server.

            Tracert to mailserver might help.

      Hi,

I looked into the link hitchhiker sent.

I can’t beleive that that huge amount of work is needed to just delete emails. Again, sometimes they just delete, by selecting emails and going to toolbar, i think it is, where ‘delete’ is an option; or right clicking  and selecting delete’.  This often works, but  will act up and just not work as discribed above.

      Thanks for trying.

To b, I don’t know what ‘Tracert to mailserver might help.’ means.

      Please explain. Thanks.

tracert exchange.example.com at a command prompt.

Have you asked your school IT support for advice about your apparently intermittent connection (by describing how your email deletions are hit-and-miss)?
