This has been a perennial problem in Excel 2016 and 2019. I will add a comment in a cell and I size the comment box so that it just fits the text in the comment. Then sometime after that (maybe after a few openings and closings of the Excel file, or maybe after I hide and unhide columns — sometimes I do this so that I can see how data in column A matches up with data in column Z), I will find that the comment box is 100s and 100s and 100s of lines, even 1000s of lines longer. It’s not that blank lines have been added; it’s that the height of the comment box has changed so that is huge — sometimes it extends downwards forever; the width does not change, only the height. What is causing this? And how can I get comment boxes back to size? And how can I make Excel stop doing this to comment boxes?
I am tired of going back, looking at each comment box, and adjusting its size by scrolling the cursor up and up and up so that the comment box again fits the text. Is there some way to trim comment boxes so that the height of the box is no longer than needed for the text that is in the box?
