I’ll attempting to help my sister with some problems on her computer. She’s had the following message appear: Windows/PCHEALTH/HELPCTRsystem corrupt

I don’t know if it means the PC Health help system is corrupt or something larger (like the whole system!) is corrupt…can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

    TIA,
    Deb

It would help if we had just a little more information about her system! (Did YOU hand-type that error message, because there is a combination of slash and backslash?)

Has she run CHKDSK C: /F after opening a CMD window? Gosh, there’s all sorts of things that could be wrong, but this might be a starting place.

I took the following from a page at Kelly’s Korner, a valuable site for computer help (Top 10 FAQ’s 2): [indent]

To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:Windowsinfpchealth.inf. Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy.

        Thanks Al!

(I did a copy/paste of the error message from my sis’s email to me – didn’t notice the inconsistent slashes until after the post!) I do know that her system is only 6 months old but other than that, I don’t know many details without being in front of it. I’ll have a look at it using your suggestion and see what else I can find out. (She’s REAL nervous about doing anything to her computer so I KNOW she hasn’t tried CHKDSK)

If I run into problems, I’ll post back!

There is a folder named ‘system’ under WindowsPCHealth. Perhaps she typed the error message incorrectly instead of doing a screen capture? Can she use ‘Help & Support’? If not, then re-install per Al’s suggestion.
