Can someone tell me why my graphs disappear when I hide the columns or rows where the data is stored?

I tend to keep all of my data for graphs on one worksheet. I need to send a particular workbook to a person who is not very good with excel, so I hid the columns where the data was stored, but when I looked at the pages with the graphs on them, the title of the graph was all that shows.

    Thanks

If you select the chart, you can choose Tools | Options, select the Chart tab in the dialog and de-activate the Plot visible cells only command. This will force the chart to plot the hidden columns too.

This is by design – data in hidden cells is not plotted in a chart.

      You should unhide the columns.
      Then create a new worksheet.
Use cut and paste to move the source cells to the new worksheet.
You can hide the worksheet with the data (Format | Sheet | Hide).
The chart will still be OK, and the user won’t be able to see the data.
