Have a fairly new Dell laptop that I haven’t hosed yet. Just noticed today that disk management shows the 2 recovery partitions and the oem partition as 100% free space. Is this because they are hidden?

Either they are hidden [usual] or they are truly empty [unusual].

Did you make the Factory Restore/Recovery discs/USB Thumb/Flash drive when prompted? Good to do so in the case of a HDD catastrophe. If not it can still be done.

They are hidden, only show in disk management. Have not had an HDD catastrophe yet. The only thing I’ve done is resize my C partition using Partition Wizard which I’ve never had a problem with.
I’ll just assume they show as empty because they’re hidden.

        Thanks,

      Rich,

They are not Hidden, they just have not been assigned drive letters (there is a difference).

Windows Disk Management reports them as empty:

However, EaseUS Partition Master tells a different story!

Note: This was done on a Dell XPS 8700 w/Win 8.1 Update 1.

Have not had an HDD catastrophe yet.

I recommend leaving them alone before you do.

I second the motion. Unless one is absolutely certain one is absolutely doing the thing right [so that one does not have to do the “right thing”], ’tis best to leave hidden partitions alone. I learned from bad experience, then I followed Altex’s advice.
