• Hide zero chart results (2003)

Silly me, I actually thought this would be a chart option.

Is there some way to hide the columns in a chart where the result is “0”? In the snapshot of some survey results (for example) questions 11 and 12 have no selection for “c” or “d”. The questions in the survey are all multiple choice, and some of them have up to nine different choices. When charting the results the majority of questions will have “0” results for a good many of the choices, which makes for a pretty aweful looking chart. Filtering the sheet does little to accomplish what I want, because I need to show the results of all rows regardless of the choices made within each column. To put that another way; I need to show all questions, but only the answers selected for those questions (not “0” values).

Any help greatly appreciated. BTW, I’m very much a novice with Excel smile

What would you want the result to look like? Should the columns with non-zero data shift to the left to take the place of the zero data?

I’m not certain I understand exactly what you mean, but if it eliminates the display of the zero data then yes.

Could you attach some sample data and explain, show what the chart looks like and explain what you want the chart to look like?

Sure. I only want the chart to display columns where there is a non-zero result. Looking at the chart. . .
Q1 (question1) should not display “d” (or any other 0 result)
            Q2 is fine
Q3 should not display “c” or “d” (or any other 0 result)
            etc.
(the results could actually be anything between “a” and “i”, but I restricted them to “a” through “d”)

You’ll have to organize the data differently to get the chart you want. In the attached version, I have added a sheet with the reorganized data. The command button on Sheet1 updates the new sheet and the chart. You can see the code of the macro called by the command button in the Visual Basic Editor.

Thanks Hans; excellent resolution as usual (headache all gone).
