Need help trying to figure out why my desktop will not connect to the internet through either my iPhone or iPad. My laptop will connect and get on the internet through both of them but not the desktop. Here are the details

    Desktop

    Win 10 64 pro 22h2

    16Gb ram

    Laptop is the same.

Verizon can’t figure it out. It has to be a setting somewhere on the desktop, but I can’t find it. Ran the troubleshooters on the desktop – no joy. I compared both computers and don’t see any differences. Where else should I look?

    Thanks

The issue could be Bluetooth vs WiFi connection to the iPhone/iPad.

Which one is your laptop using, Bluetooth or WiFi?

Is the desktop using the same type of connection?

If not, it’s possible the iPhone/iPad isn’t setup to support the type of connection the desktop is trying to use.

Another possibility could be now many concurrent connections the iPhone/iPad can support at one time?

BTW, there’s no setting on the iPhone/iPad for this, it’s controlled by your cell provider.

Both iphone and ipad hotspots use wifi. They are both setup the same way that i can tell.

        Thanks

Might be a difference in the WiFi band (2.4 vs 5) your desktop uses vs what the iPhone/iPad is using.

Can the desktop see the iPhone/iPad’s SSID?

Both the desktop and Laptop will connect to either iPhone or iPad. It’s just that the desktop will not access the internet once connected whereas the Laptop will

Does the desktop think you still have a connection via cable?

      cheers, Paul

No, it shows up in wifi. There is no connection via cable to either the phone of ipad.

        Thanks

          Try this:
With no ethernet connection and no WiFi connection on the PC.
Have the iPhone Hot Spot turned on so Allow others to join.
Use the iPhone cable to connect the iPhone to the USB port of the PC.
You will have to enter on the iPhone to Trust the PC and you will have to enter your iPhone passcode.
Once this is done it may take a while but you should see the Ethernet network icon in the Task bar.
This sets the iPhone Hot Spot as an Ethernet connection.
Does this connection allow you to connect to the Internet?

          HTH, Dana:))
