MX-Linux 21 includes a pleasing variety of fonts, including (less pleasingly) every single Noto font known to Google in a significant number of languages and character sets.  Only a few of these Noto fonts are in a “Western” character set (examples being Noto Sans, Noto Serif, Noto Sans Mono, and so on).  Having so many ‘foreign language’ Noto fonts causes unnecessary clutter (for example, when selecting a font in Writer), and it would be good to be able to identify the ‘font packages’ which need to be removed to leave only the few ‘Western character set” fonts.

I cannot find a list of the Noto font packages and the fonts which each package contains.  Does anyone know of such a list?  Conversely, is there any way to determine from a specific Noto font file the package from which it originated?

    Thanks very much!

This Debian packages webpage is unfortunately not organised in quite the way I need…

FWIW; have noticed over the years that some distro developers are embedding fonts within linux-modules, which is why you may not be able to see them in synaptic under the installed fonts section.
My advice, don’t go there..forgetaboutit and move on.

The problem is that there are 129 Noto fonts comprising all languages of the world (for that is Google’s intention) according to Wikipedia’s somewhat inconsistent list [see below], of which I only want the five (or possibly six, if you count Mono as separate) Noto Latin fonts:
Sans, Sans Display, Sans Mono, Serif, Serif Display
The remaining fonts are, quite literally, a waste of space and effort for me!

Warning: Make a backup image before you make any changes!!!!

Go to Settings / System Setting / Appearance / Fonts / Font Mgmt
Scroll down the list of fonts, select the first of the Noto fonts you want to delete, scroll down until you see the last one, hold the shift key while you click on the last one on the list. Scroll back through the now-highlighted listing, hold the ctrl key while you click to deselect the individual ones on the list that you want to keep.

I would suggest looking over the list once more before hitting the delete key. You will get a chance to look over the list yet another time and I would suggest you do so before you confirm the delete.
