How do I add to my address book?

I just received an e-mail from my niece in my newly-installed Outlook 2000 (Internet only) version. I want to add her e-mail address to the address book which is available under the Tools menu. Not to the Contacts part of Outlook. I am not that advanced yet.

Does anybody know how I can set up my niece’s address in the address book without re-typing all the data? Is there no button to add the addresses of new correspondents automatically? Can’t I drag and drop it? I tried everything I could think of.

Yours in amazement and hoping someone will wave their wand in my direction…

Replies

With the message open, right click on the “From” name (or any “To”, or “CC” name) and the menu option to add to Contacts or PAB appears. (Menu options may depend on whether you’re in IMO or CoW mode.) Easy, huh?

Many thanks. I thought I had tried the right mouse button, but I was probably hovering over the mesaage text at the time. I’m at the office right now, so I’ll give your solution the full treatment when I get home.

What I do (which may not be the best method) is:
Open the mail, and double click on the senders name.
This opens another window, with the email address already selected.
Ctrl_Ins copies it to the clipboard.
Open your address book, New/Internet and Shft_Ins the address straight in.

Contacts and personal address book aren’t the same; a PAB is a separate “*.pab” file. A PAB is more useful in CoW mode, but I think you can create one in IMO mode from your contacts. (I converted my home IMO to CoW a while back for some reason.) I recall creating a PAB service on my then IMO install through Tools, Services, and then subsituting the PAB as e-mail address source either through Tools, Services, Addressing or some other route. Check out Help, that was my only guide.
