How do I copy an animated GIF from a web site

I have a nice animated GIF on a web site that I would like to copy and use in a MS-Word and MS-Powerpoint presentations. That is with the animation going.

How can I do that?

I don’t think Word and PowerPoint support animated GIFs, unless that is a new feature of Office 2010.

In PowerPoint, you could use PPT’s own animation to play the frames, after extracting them from the GIF. A program like Photoshop Elements that renders animated GIF frames as layers in an image would be handy for that project. There could be some transparency issues.

Try it, can’t hurt. Right-click, Save as —.jpg. Insert it in, and report back to us. Be careful about using copyrighted ones in a public doc.

I just did it in Open Office 3 and it works.

I don’t think that “Save as —.jpg” will produce an animated GIF (which is what the OP wants).

Oh but it does, PowerPoint, I mean. I’ve just dragged and dropped several animated GIFs into PowerPoint 2007, and all seem to work, at least for me.

Right clicking and saving as .gif (not .jpg, which to my knowledge does not support animation) always seems to work for me too.
