I have a laptop computer with Win 8 and a touch screen. I spend much of my time using the traditional desktop and every time I mouse over to reach for a scroll bar at the right edge of the screen, the charms panel appears. The 3 Oct 2013 Windows Secrets newsletter showed how to disable the mouse from activating the charms in Win 8.1. Turns out that the instructions given do not seem to work for plain old Win 8. Is there a way to accomplish the same thing in Win 8?

AskWoody LoungerNovember 5, 2013 at 11:29 am #1421363To accomplish this in Windows 8.0, you need a third party app.
Classic Shell – http://www.classicshell.net/ (free)
Start is back – http://www.startisback.com/ (nominal cost)These are two of the more popular apps but there are others.
They also allow you to boot into the desktop instead of the Start Screen and brig back the Windows Start menu. If you disable the hot corners with them, you can bring up the Charms bar by hitting Windows Key + C if you ever need it.Jerry

AskWoody LoungerNovember 5, 2013 at 12:35 pm #1421369See Post # 9 of this thread. I detail a method of hiding the Charms bar unless you follow a specific method while on the desktop. This is just one of the tips I included in this Sticky Thread while I was a Moderator here.
This method works well if you prefer not using one of the Start Menu add-on apps Jerry mentioned.

AskWoody PlusNovember 10, 2013 at 6:18 pm #1422195Thanks for your replies. As it turns out an edition of the Windows Secrets newsletter came out with detailed advice on downloading Win 8.1; so, I decided that it would be safe to give it a go. It worked out just fine and I was able to disable the mouse in the corner. My problem is completely solved.
