This is a VERY BASIC question.

I am having an issue with the bitlocker-related updates.

I don’t need it, and you keep recommending we HIDE the updates.

Can you please tell me HOW to do this?

    Thanks,

    Mel

You can use Microsoft’s wushowhide, WUmgr apps..

You can do this very easily with PowerShell and with out external software.

Thanks RG. I hadn’t seen this method before but it seems a lot more straightforward than some of the patch blocking tools which, at least in my experience, can be a bit flaky sometimes.

Apart from installing PSWindowsUpdate from an untrusted repository?

          b,

That is true. However, you can freely look at the code if you so choose to verify that it isn’t nasty. GitHub and the PowerShell Gallery are pretty reliable sources as any funny stuff would be pretty quickly flagged by the community.

I still consider PowerShell an IT tool not a consumer tool.

          [My Opinion]

Susan, I’ll have to disagree with you on this. This is the same thing they said when PC first came out “It’s a hobbyist thing” well how did that turn out?

Like any TOOL it’s used better by some people than others but it doesn’t preclude those “others” from using it at what ever level they are comfortable. Both my brother’s can build anything with a hammer, saw, drill, etc. Me not so much!

Would you also consider the Command Prompt a IT tool. I know a lot of people who used to use it regularly who weren’t IT pros.

Entering simple PowerShell commands is no more challenging than entering batch commands and in most cases they are actually easier as it is definitively more readable.

As with most things it’s a matter of education and practice. It can be learned and applied to the user’s benefit.

We have been using Windows Automatic Update Manager (WAU Manager) by Carifred for several years, with no issues.

Doesn’t require manually touching Group Policy, Windows Update settings, or the Registry.

You can hide any update until you’re ready to install it.

      Not afilliated with the product.

though from time to time you may need to download the latest version of Carifred’s WAU Manager app if you have an old version of WAU Manager and it tells you to obtain the newest version from their web site if not using the latest version

In Settings, you can select “Automatically update WAU Manager at load”
