• How do I restore?

‘Silent’ registry file corruption due to transient RAM faults has completely screwed up my access to all PST’s and backups – even to the point of my single-user non-networked PC now telling me that I don’t have access authority. As best as I can figure it out, all my data files are actually intact on the HD. I just cannot open them, presumably ‘cos the idiot PC no longer knows where they are.
Everything is backed up to CD-Rs. I’m about to buy new RAM, reformat my HD, reinstall Win98 and reload all apps.
    1. Will reinstalled Outlook open the files OK?
    2. If not, what can I try?
    3. What in general terms does the ‘rebuild inbox’ tool do?
    4. Is Outlook 2000 more robust? Is backup less clunky?
    Thanks,
    Peter

When you copy the cd files back to the hard drive, check properties on the pst, it’ll be read only and you’ll have to uncheck it.
outlook 2000 offers improvements. Do you own a copy? If so, use it.
