• How Does One Get Karma?

I’ve noticed on woody’s & other Loungers profiles something called ‘Karma’. I assume it’s earned by Loungers voting topics & replies ‘Up’ or ‘Down’ (I now see ‘VOTE UP’ & ‘VOTE DOWN’ buttons by replies). Woe is me, I have no Karma! 😉 I have thanked Woody & others for topics & replies (to me, a ‘THANKS’ is like a Facebook like). Thanks don’t seem to enter the Karma equation. I also think it’s like the concept: What goes around comes around. Or, you have to Give in order to Get. Any thoughts?

    UPDATE:

changes have been made to AskWoody, resulting in the removal of Karma Points and Voting in posts.

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

      Hi Bill,

From what I gather, you need only write posts that help others, then those who feel what you’ve written is especially helpful hit the VOTE UP button.

“anonymous” is really racking up the points! If someone got that as their username, they would start way ahead of the game!

No, actually Anonymous’ points only show after you have logged in, and the points you see are a reflection of your own points.
They don’t show what Anonymous has accumulated!

I’ve noticed that, while Thanks are acknowledged instantly, Karma takes a few hours to update (sorry, I don’t know why).

I noticed in Firefox that the votes do not appear or do not appear correctly unless the page is refreshed. It may be one of the cookies which has to expire or one of the meta-refresh descriptors which refreshes automatically only after a while.

A post’s score changes do not sync with the Karma at the same time – there’s a long time-lag between the score showing a vote, and the Karma recognising it too (also in FF).

Yes, I noticed after testing a little bit more.
It is weird though that the “Thanks” action shows immediately in the user interface, while the voting effect shows correctly only after a page refresh.
Karma count is delayed and has no relation to the page refresh.

I’m glad you folks are tackling this. Personally, I haven’t a clue how all of this works….

Here’s the documentation, if you’re curious:

@Woody:   This may not be the proper place to ask this question, however – – – – if a user wants to copy a posted message for referral how do you increase the size of the printing?   I’ve tried a few and the printing comes out so small it needs a magnifying glass to see it.  If there some way the printing can be enlarged so it can be read?

It’s very readable on the website, however not when it’s printed out.  (???).  Apologies if I’m asking this question in the wrong place.  Thank you for creating the Forum and Lounge  it’s a WONDERFUL help!!  You have done an outstanding job, as always!!   🙂

One way would be to highlight the message, copy/paste it into your your processor, make the font as large as you want, and print it from there.

            PKCano:

Thank you for that idea.   I can also copy it and paste it into a “draft” message in my e-mail and keep it there as well.   I just thought that there wouldn’t be a problem with printing it off from here, however (for whatever reason), it just doesn’t print it, as it’s seen on the website.

I appreciate the reply, and as always admire your expertise.  Thank you once again!

I suppose karma can go down if people vote you down. That would just mean annoying types voted down would have a hard time gaining karma and people whose comments are appreciated would get more to indicate they are respected by the community. So we could use the vote up feature as some kind of way to give informal authority to people. However, being liked and being right is not always the same thing.
