How does Outlook 2003 de-duplicate contacts when importing them.

Hi,

Outlook 2003 presents 3 options when importing csv files but fails to
indicate the de-duplication schema.

Does anyone know what the schema is?
Example:
[INDENT]Does Outlook 2003 de-duplicate based on the “email address” some other indicator such as Full Name, File as, or Display as, or a statistical combo of all characters?
In my business I need to de-duplicate based on the either the “Display as” name or “email address” mostly the email address.

I have always believed Outlook performed duplicate detection based upon the Full Name, though it doesn’t make that entirely clear.

Disappointing from such a “business sophisticated” company like MS. And I have the 2″ thick manual. Did not see any mention of it there. De-duping by only the full name is not effective.
I won’t get into my reasoning as it’s not germane to my question & it would invite too much time wasting debate. The need to know the de-dupe schema is very important or
you could easily end up with a massive time consuming editing job. Can’t make any money doing low end/pay clerical work.

It turns out that in Microsoft Dynamics CRM you can configure how duplicate detection works, but not in Outlook.

Thanks for the good info, but I don’t have MD and am not a techie, so I don’t want to spend time on that methodology.
However, I think I may have come up with a business workaround to update my laptop’s Outlooks email contacts.
