I have a desktop PC still running Windows 10 ver 1511. I would like to update to 22H2 without having to reinstall any of my applications.
I would like to know what the best process would be to do so.
Thanks for your help.

Make an image back to external disk.
Settings > Updates and Security > Check for Updates.
This will update Windows to the latest version.
Note: it may also update to Windows 11 unless you run GRC InControl and set the Windows version to 10 and release to 22H2.
Make sure you run InControl and check the settings after each reboot post update.
cheers, Paul
For 1511 to 22H2 you might be best to do a direct inplace upgrade. Going via Windows Update may do several upgrades and take a lot longer.
No.1, As noted by Paul T create an image backup first as a failsafe should something go south.
Is it not possible to download the 22H2 with correct bitness (x86/x64) iso, then once downloaded, mount the iso and select setup.exe and do an upgrade ‘preserving your programs and settings’? Surely this would be the simplest and most painless method. (ensuring there is plenty of storage space first)
That’s what I just did in an upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10 22H2. Worked fine. I lost the wallpaper picture I had, but as near as I can tell didn’t lose anything else. All my old programs seem to work. Saved bookmarks were carried over, albeit they now show with the Edge browser icon, although that’s inconsequential because Firefox and Opera were carried over with all bookmarks and history.
