    I installed Office 2016 C2R in March with ver 1802 Build 9029.2167.

Then turned automatic updates OFF, pending getting to know C2R better.  I have not changed the default install so assume I am on Monthly updates – but I have not seem any/many unresolved problems looking at the MS Office fixes and workaround site.

I want to get caught up and there have been many updates since my version.

If I change the Office updater back to Automatic will it seek and install each and every subsequent update in the order released? Or would one large cumulative update come down like with Window 10?  How long would this process take so I know what to expect?

    Thx

Thanks, but I have Office 2016 for Home and Business C2R, not Office 365 Pro Plus.

Per another post, does Office 2016 get feature updates?  That other post says no since it is a one time purchase not a subscription.

Also there are approx 15 updates between my version and the latest version.  And one version update is over 400MB and the next update is like 142MB. Surely using only the latest update cant contain what the previous 400MB update added to office – can it?

      OP here,

      Answered my own question.

Surprisingly took about 3 minutes to download, then about 1 minute to bring my one time purchase Office 2016 Home and Business C2R up to the most current version.

So how large is the update? 🙂

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...

This was my first time with updating Office 2016 since I installed back in March.

Since it is C2R, you must update thru the Office product.  So I turned Office Updates back on and not wanting to wait, selected Update Now.

Office then throws a block screen advising it is downloading updates and that is all you get!

It does not show how many files, what files, or size of download. I had to jump 15 update builds to get current but only took about 3 mins to download.

After download finished, it advised it had to close Office to install updates.

The install was very quick and then it started Office back up – done.

      Sorry for late reply

C2R source/update files are the same regardless the product
Office 365, Office 2016 and Office 2019 share the same binaries
only difference is based on the installed apps with each SKU

the features are mostly determined by the license and SKU policies

From the post below this one:

Looks like this may answer whether Office 2016 gets updated features or not.

Per Microsoft Office, the paragraph “Who gets new features”

One time purchase Office 2016 will receive security and performance updates but no new features.
When do I get the newest features in Office 2016 for Office 365?
