    (This is another beginner’s question.)

Upon opening an HTML file that was saved from the Web, Word attempted outgoing TCP connections.

Is there some setting or method to tell Word that I’m just interested in the text of the HTML file, as saved, and don’t need it to show whatever graphics or ads that the page also has, and to not try to connect to the Internet?

You could save the web page as a plain text file. In Internet Explorer: File | Save As…, select “Text File (*.txt)” in the “Save as type” dropdown. You’ll lose all formatting, though.

My practice has always been to save as HTML pages. I wanted to see how Word would handle such files.

I noitce that if I choose the “Open in Browser” option, which is probably more appropriate, anyway, I get a dialog box that warns:

“Hyperlinks can be harmful to your computer and data. To protect your computer, click only those hyperlinks from trusted sources.”

Wonder why it doesn’t give that warning when opening the file into Word.

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
Your account can't use all available BBCodes, they will be stripped before saving.
