• How to boot into Safe Mode

Trying to uninstall ZoneAlarm Pro. ZoneLabs’ support site describes how an inability to delete two key files require a reboot into “Safe Mode.” How is this done? A check of MSKnowledgebase and NT Help produces nothing. Thanks.

When you re-start, are you given a choice to start in VGA mode? This is ‘safe mode’. If not:

      Right_click My Computer, Properties , Startup/Shutdown:

There should be a drop-down box giving you at least two options (more if you have multiple operating systems). The default should be your standard boot-up.

There will also be a field for selecting how long you have at boot-up to choose which method/OS you want to start in. It could be that this has been set to ‘0’ giving you no time to make your choice.

I would say your choices are:
1] If too short, set the timeout to something practical like 3 seconds, and select VGA mode at startup/reboot.
2] Change the startup to VGA mode in My Computer, reboot with no further action, do what you need to do, they go back and change it back to standard start-up.

If you do not have the VGA option, your boot.ini file will need editing – we should be able to talk you through that.
