How to Change MS Outlook Rules Programically

I would like to manipulate the rules programically. I have a diagram of the Outlook object model but I don’t see the Outlook rules anywhere. Do they exist? Can I manipulate them programically?

    Thank you!

      Ilyal,

The current (April 2001) of MS Office and VBA Developer magazine contains an article on using VBA as an alternative to the rules wizard. Based on a cursory look at the article, it appears that the functions contained in the rules wizard are not available in the object model, but it is possible to reproduce and even extend the functionality that the rules wizard provides, via the Outlook objects that are available to VBA.

If you’re trying to change existing rules programatically, you may be stuck.

You can probably view this article on their website http://www.msofficepro.com/, but be aware that the site’s policy has recently changed, and the online versions of the feature articles are now only viewable by ‘members’ i.e. subscribers to the magazine. (Although it’s never nice to see something that was for free become for pay, the magazine is well worth the subscription cost, and the online archive is itself a valuable resource.)

      Hope this helps,
      Gary

        Gary,

Thanks for the information lead. I was able to get a trial subscription and could read the article. The articles look pretty decent and I may get a subscription to MS Office Pro.

        Thank you!
