I have used Front Page 2000 together with FTP Pro for many years. I use little of the “built-in” capability of FP as there are too many problems but it works very well as an editor and I still do sites from scratch. My problem is with the code display in the HTML Page view. It is always horrible small Times New Roman, the Microsoft horrible default font. I can change selected code colors, but can find no way to change font or font characteristics or size. I am having eye problems and bigger, cleaner, would be better and make editing easier for me..

To complicate this mystery, recently I loaded some work by others. To my amazement, this code was shown bold and in a font similar to this one? This was the first time this has ever happened to me in my FP and it gives hope that there are handles for this somewhere? I have tried messing with all the scripts, CCS, etc that are with these few pages? I not only can not change it but it persists in this different font no matter what I do.

    Any answers out there ?

    😎

Personally I wouldn’t use FP (heard too many horror stories). I use Notepad++ to edit my html and css. This editor has many filetypes it can use to colour the tags etc. appropriately, including html and css. It’s a much better text editor than MS’s Notepad for may text editing requirements. There are other such editors as well; no doubt others on this forum will make their recommendations.

I’ve just checked and you can ‘zoom’ the text by pressing ctrl and moving the mouse wheel up (see under View/zoom).

Also discovered that it keeps the zoom setting between sessions.

Thank you very much! I tried it and, wa-la, it works. This is much improved over what I have lived with forever. Incidentally, where did you learn about this feature? Thanks again. I really appreciate what you have shared !;)

I just looked on the toolbar and saw zoom in the view menu. I then just played with it. Sometimes I think can’t see what they want and assume it’s not there but a bit of ‘playing’ (perhaps better ‘experimenting’) will find what you want. I do it in pretty much every program I have (including Win 8!;))

I don’t know about FP2000 because I use FP2003 but in FP2003 you can change the font by going to the “Tools/Page Options/Default Fonts/Code View”. As for MS Expressions Web 4, I have it also installed but don’t like it nearly as well as FrontPage. I also use Notepad++ on occasion and it is great as access-mdb stated. However, for fully 98% of all my coding I use AceHTML(the free version) and have used it for 10+ years. See if FP2000 has the font options I mentioned above but if not the CTRL/mouse wheel trick works in lots of applications. Happy coding!

I was informed some time back by my Domain Host to get off FrontPage [mine was 2003] because they were changing from HTML4 to HTML5.

They suggested WordPress but I went with Microsoft’s Expression Web instead.

Part of getting away from FrontPage is it won’t work with the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010, not a big problem as support for Office 2003 and its applications has been discontinued.

Like you I have been hearing about HTML5 for quite awhile. Adoption seems all a bit vague.
I dislike WordPress to the max. Like anything, in the hands of an experienced user, perhaps not so bad? Unfortunately, low-information users have awfull results IMO. It seems to be pushed to those folks? Talk about over coded…. My host now lists it available to me??? Notice how you can instantly spot a WP site?
Is Expressions another Microsoft “purchase” ? Are you pleased with it? I do use Access, but prefer Corel’s WordPerfect, etc and simply use Word, etc, when I must.
I do wonder what is after XP Pro / FrontPage for me? We have Win8 here too. (How can a computer look like a cell phone?) Ugh.. Hard to believe.
I wish we could go forward. I shudder to think what the big M will do next? Many friends have gone to Apple./

Incidentally, on the topic at hand the thumb wheel is working for me but unlike “access” above, mine reverts at every session. It is still a GREAT help to me!

I could never get around WordPress’ Blog feature, didn’t want that.
Expression Web is free as shown on that link.

Another vote for Expression Web free version here. I have been using the program for several years as a replacement for Front Page.

Looks like you’re right, Berton. All good(free) things eventually come to an end. However, there are still many good free html editors around; coffecup comes to mind http://www.coffeecup.com/free-editor/. I love trying out all the free editors. I’m a big fan of FREE.
