This is a good article to read in considering choosing a User ID at login sites.  Just an extra step for much more security.  It is also one reason why I don’t like sites that want to use your email address as your User ID.

The Social Security Administration requires an email address for an identifier. There’s no way around it that I can tell. You can specify that your email address be enabled to receive security codes, which will come to your phone, if on your phone your email address and your phone number are linked.

Of course, to get into your SSA account, you have to use an SSA-approved URL (ID.me or LOGIN.GOV), which has already taken measures to establish your identity when you created an account with it to pass you through to the SSA) and at SSA’s behest it will verify your identity each time you log in at the URL.

      Yes food for thought,
We know about using strong passwords
but the same can be for a user id
and not to use your name as lots of peeps do…

My password manager has built-in 128 bit hex passwords. I use these for unique usernames.

I like to use names from science fiction shows and movies such as Star Trek.  Klingon and Vulcan names come to my mind easy, but not so much to others.

Even astrophysicist Carl Sagan when speaking astronomically used Billions, not Trillions.
