If you use UEFI, or if you have “gen 2” Virtual Machines you may already know about this beast.InfoWorld Tech Watch

Woody, I don’t use a gen 2 VM, but I do have Win 8.1 & a UEFI machine. I have KB2920189 but not KB2962824 in the update chute. Since Microsoft won’t say which modules for which machines are revoked & could brick MY machine, should I hold off on KB2920189? Or at least get enough media to hold Windows Defender Offline & a recovery image before I apply it?

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

I’m about to give some general advice on the topic, but the short version is: Make sure you know how to turn off UEFI, then go ahead and apply 2920189. That way, if it dies, you’ll know how to recover easily.
