I sense a major fork in the road coming for Windows as an OS. Microsoft seem to have put Windows, particularly for Home and Pro, into a “holding pattern” for 2019 with the current changes focussing on security and updates and .. not much except consolidation for later in the year. ( Hooray for that, say many). But I feel a big repositioning of “Microsoft OS” is possible in 2020. A full blown Windows for Enterprise and Education much as before but evolving differently going forward and a streamlined/”simpler” version for consumer/small end user, replacing Home and Pro. This probably offered as a bundle with Office and Defender on a subscription only basis. Both sharing an ancestry but fundamentally different (particularly capability and support) in the future. Home and Pro to get a supported end of life date like prior OS versions.

It could explain the recurrent ModernOS rumours, not something in addition to the current Windows versions but partly in replacement of.

The problem is MS is not sharing any road map of what to expect for Windows, so much for being transparent. Also, the fall release has not been sent out to per Chris which means it is not being tested. What does this mean? With no road map, everyone is reduced to navel-gazing.

only thing I can find from 1909 or 19H2 is this recent blog from Born about 19H2 & a “broken” dark mode:

You should see this article. Seems like interesting features are ready to come. But why they test 20H1 instead of 19H2?

I am little bit confused by build number 18912, but what the hack. There is enormous mess in windows these days.

      Agreed, especially with the following:

I think MS should go through a couple more no-new-feature “updates” and hit us with a long-overdue Service Pack.  Apparently, since WIndows-10 debuted, the long-standing concept of product testing no longer applies.  The mantra appears to be “Get something out of the door, quickly.  Who cares if it works or not.”
