Why is Defender disabled?

Don’t know why?
It’s been like this since I upgraded from win 7 to win 10, I looked in the security setting and it’s grayed out but it looks like it’s on but who knows.

Hence the post, need help 🙂

I have the paid version pf Malwarebytes, CCleaner and the free MSE running.

MSE should not be installed on Windows 10. Windows Defender takes its place. If MSE shows up in installed programs you should uninstall it.

I have a computer I’m working on with the same problem.
He had MSE when he was using Windows 7.
When he upgraded it to Windows 10 MSE carried over and Windows Defender is grayed out just like you computer.
If you find a solution, I’ll certainly refer to it.
If (I really want to say when) I’ll post the solution.

I did a fresh install of Win7 w/SP1 on Saturday then all the updates through Sunday. Monday the Win10 was offered and I let it install. I got a message that MSE was uninstalled as it is incompatible with Win10 and the default was now the latest Windows Defender.

That’s what I originally got also when I upgraded my HP laptop from W7 Pro Sp1 to W10 Pro on 8/4/2015, so evidently the W10 install doesn’t always catch it.

Don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does 🙂
All W10 Pro at 22H2,(2 Desktops, 1 Laptop).

I’ve upgraded 4 Win 7 computers to Windows 10 that had MSE on them. In each case Windows Defender did automatically take over like it was supposed to do.

On my friends computer I mentioned above I wasn’t there when he upgraded his so I don’t know whether or not any messages showed up. But I hope to get back on his computer in a few days.

I did the recovery back to win 7.

That was one of the fixes I saw in other forums that was the only way to resolve the issue for some people.

OK, MSE is gone and Windows Defender is on…… post resolved.

PS: If I had to do this for anyone, I’d image the win 10 upgrade so the 2nd win 10 upgrade could be much faster.

In my friends situation he is past the 30 day period to revert back to his Win7.
However he has his Win7 install disc.
If I reinstall his Win7 is it possible to get Win10 back on?

Just run the upgrade again.
