    I don’t stay logged in, I log out when I leave here and log back in whenever I return, so I haven’t experienced the cookie issue.

    Hi @Bob99,
    You use Firefox, right? Given @willf’s reply <here>,

    My personal usage, which is moderately inconvenient because I’m on this site every day, is never to set “keep me logged in.”

    I’m wondering how/if in Firefox it’s possible to automatically arrange for a “don’t keep me logged in” when leaving AskWoody.

    Do you manually log out when you leave? Or is it possible to make Firefox automatically remove cookies and log off when closing an AskWoody tab? Not when closing Firefox, but when closing a tab to a specific website?

      I check “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed” in Firefox settings.

      You might want to look into Private Browsing.

        Looks like Private Browsing is the way to go for AskWoody. For other sites where I want cookies and site data to remain, then I’ll go for non-private browsing and not use the setting for “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed.”

          Private Browsing – OR – a separate AskWoody-only Profile, configured as you want it. Also useful for any other sites with the same privacy requirements.

      I use the extension Cookie Autodelete (3.8.2) for  what you describe. You can set it to delete cookies from a site as soon as you close the tab or navigate away from the site. It is also possible to whitelist or graylist certain sites to prevent this for those sites specifically.

      @WCHS

      Sorry, but I totally missed this thread that you started! My apologies!

      The responses you’ve gotten from the others above have probably worked to answer your primary questions in your post.

      What I do is different than many folks, however. I simply log out every time I leave the site by clicking the “Log Out” button under my name. After the site then shows me logged out, I  go to a blank page (about:blank) and then proceed to dump the entire cache and ALL cookies from FF using its’ built-in features for doing so under the History>Clear Recent History…” item and in the Settings area under “Privacy & Security”, I use the “Clear Data…” button under the “Cookies and Site Data” item. This means that I don’t stay logged in at all, and I must log in each time I visit the site if I want to post something. Although that’s inconvenient, I’m willing to do it, my personal preference.

      I normally roll with FF set to reject all cross-site cookies, along with a few tweaks in the about:config area, and it has served me well thus far…no obnoxious ads nor much else in terms of annoyances that can exist on web pages these days.

      Again, sorry for the delay in my response!  🙁
