Does anyone know how to make text darker and more readable?

Searched the internet and found this but as you will see there is no solution yet.

Text on Windows 10 is just not as dark (and readable) as Windows 7 or a Chromebook.  There have been many suggestions here but no solutions.  This includes checking Clear Type as well as downloading programs to change the font.  No matter what I try, the text just looks washed out.  Any suggestions?  winver: 20H2 Build 19042.804

Try Settings, Ease of Access, High contrast, Turn on high contrast so that you can select a high contrast theme and specific colors for different elements.

The problem with that is that you are then stuck with ugly, harsh themes.

WinAero doesn’t work to change the system font even. I also cannot install a new font which is what I use on my Windows 8 computer and was able to easily install there. Microsoft hates its Windows 10 users I think.

The worst thing about Windows 10 is how horribly bad it displays. It’s h*** on your eyes.

I have been using Advanced System Font Changer from https://www.wintools.info/index.php/advanced-system-font-changer for years. The version I use only makes a static change to the registry and allows a save of the changes that can just be re-merged if windows update messes with it. (surprise surprise with that!) This works just fine on my Intel box with a AMD video card and Radeon s/w. My newer AMD box with Nvidia card is a no go. A restart is needed to ‘set’ the changes and on that box it gets wiped on restart. There is a newer version of Advanced System Font Changer that I have not tried. It seems to be a ‘stay resident’ program. I guess it needs to be running to keep the changes or inject them on restart. I tend to not really want any extra baggage in that regard. The old version was free the new is a subscription ($10 or so) and I don’t like that either.

What I do now for readability is outlined here https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/67931-change-default-system-font-windows-10-a.html

None of this makes the font ‘darker’ of course, I am somewhat surprised that this is a thing. Poor control of windows font is just another symptom of the regard MS has for its subscribers.

I hope this is of some help.

BTW have you fussed with the monitor brightness, saturation controls etc. ?
