I assume that you have visited https://dd-wrt.com/ and their FAQ.  There is page after page after page of useful information, but I haven’t come across a setup/management guide as such.

I have a Netgear N750 that I flashed with DD-WRT v3.0-r33215M firmware update, but I use it as an additional router/switch, not a modem.  WAN is disabled, DHCP is disabled and such.  It’s connected to my modem/router through the former WAN port, giving me 4 additional LAN ports.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.

We were all once "Average Users".

The DD-WRT guides can be (very) out of date – I’ve set up mine with a guest wifi account and there are several conflicting descriptions, but it now behaves.

I’d start a thread here if you want some help.

p.s. While I’m here, the router is configured to function as a DMZ device and is fine as long as I have a cheap as chips switch between it and the main router. Connecting direct and it can’t find a route to the main router – same subnet. Odd!
