Win8.1. I want to pin a shortcut that opens a specific web page to the taskbar to make it more convenient. Is there some way to do that?

    Thanks,
    Bill

      Bill,

If the shortcut is on your desktop just drag and drop it on your task bar.

I thought I watched my wife try that but it turned out she didn’t drop it on the taskbar! However, when I tried it I got a message about unpinning Chrome from the taskbar. It turns out the shortcut in question is a Chrome shortcut to a TV schedule web page and the Chrome is already pinned to the taskbar. I’ll work on changing the TV shortcut to Firefox or IE to separate the two functions.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

      Bill,

You can create a shortcut by Right-Clicking on the Desktop and then just put the URL to the site in the “Type the location of the item:” box and click next, give it a name and click Finish.

Interestingly, I thought this would pin to the taskbar just fine however it does NOT! It does however show up as a pinned item if you right-click the existing Chrome icon on your taskbar! I’m using Win 10 Pro but should work the same on Win 8.1.

Yes, I see the same web address in the right-click list for the pinned icon on the taskbar. That is too obscure for my wife! Actually, I first need to find the setting in IE that is preventing it from working on her laptop — mine had this same problem for a while and I was able to remove all the settings I had changed at one point and I never bothered to put them back in one at a time to find the problem one. I need to do the same thing on hers so she can use IE again if she want to. Then I’ll put that TV schedule on a different browser so it can be pinned to the taskbar.

      Thanks, RG, for your help.
