How to prevent automatic audio and automatic video while browsing

It seems that more websites are using automatic audio and video …
I use Firefox with Ad-Block plus, but can’t find an option in either to prevent this unwanted annoyance.
Any suggestions ?

For Flash annoyances in Firefox, set Flash to Ask to activate. Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.

Or use FlashBlock, which allows specific items to run.

You can always set Flash to “never activate” then you will never have to watch anything, and no questions on every page as to whether you to allow flash for it.

FireFox and its nicer cousin Pale Moon both allow you to set Flash to “Ask to Activate” which is an extremely handy feature. I use it all the time with no problems at all.
