How to reduce SkyDrive synching problems

    By Katherine Murray

Although SkyDrive is a big part of Windows 8 and Office 2013, Microsoft’s online data-storage service falls somewhat short of its potential. Fortunately, you can work around some of SkyDrive’s shortcomings. Here are some tips for living with SkyDrive.

      Great article on SkyDrive –

Just to be clear, under the section “When everything else fails” – when you copy and paste the file that has not-yet received its green check mark, are you are doing this on a device that is not the native device where the specific file was first created (or updated)? If this is true, then I see your point – the whole file is there, but maybe SkyDrive has not yet “verified” the sync yet.

It’s my understanding that a device’s SkyDrive folder (at least in Windows 7) is just like any other local folder. Other than the unique cloud icon, and its built-in syncing relationship to SkyDrive cloud servers, I believe that files and folders inside the SkyDrive folder are just like any other local files and folders. In other words, you will have instant access to these local resources, even if they have not fully synced to the cloud.

Can someone confirm if my understanding of this is true? Thanks!

Thanks for talking about SkyDrive. I have so many hopes for it, but have also been frustrated by the uploading. For me, I can’t get OneNote to work properly, and would be glad to hear anyone else’ experiences and tips on OneNote in SkyDrive.

I use OneNote everyday, and have only had one problem. If I remember correctly is was a syncing problem. OneNote does on occasion seem to take longer than I would like to sync to my Windows Phone 8, so I have just gotten into the habit of manually syncing after I do the work on my Windows 7 PC. When I don’t manually sync it, just a few seconds after opening OneNote on my phone, it updates. I open OneNote on my desktop, and not through the SkyDrive app BTW.

The article nicely juxtaposes with Woody on Going Google and how much easier this is there.
