• How to remove the “Welcome to Office 2007”

Has anyone had success getting the Welcome to Office 2007 box from appearing every time a new user tries to open Office 2007.

I have read numerous articles on how to do it, but I still have not found one that works.

I have tried the customization tool that is available with the volume license CD but the ShowOptIn setting they talk about is not there.

I set the ShowOptin Registry setting but that didn’t do anything.

I can not find any setting in the gpedit.msc

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks.

If you are referring to the splash screens that display briefly when starting Office applications, I am not aware of a way to disable this globally for all applications. However, I’ve found it possible to disable the splash screen in Word only , by using the ‘/q’ command line switch – see How to use startup command line switches to start Word 2007, Word 2003, Word 2002, and Word 2000. This appears to indicate that it only works in Word 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1), but it does work in Word 2007 for me.

The “/q’ switch does not appear to work with other Office 2007 applications.

That’s not the screen I am referring to. The first time a user opens an Office 2007 application you get two screens that asks you to participate in their customer Experience program and receive automatic updates. That’s the screen I want to get rid of.

Have you answered the questions completely or do you just dismiss the screen?

I finally figured out how to get rid of the Wecome to Office 2007 Screen.

It’s a long story but now each user does not get the Welcome to Office 2007 screen and have to click through it.

      Thanks for your help.

If you are having difficulties it’s probably because you are still using the original volume license CD

The original volume license CD contains errors in the ADM / ADMX and in the Office Customisation Tool.
To fix this, you have to update the install share built from the CD.

Go to How to prevent the “Welcome to the 2007 Microsoft Office system” dialog box from opening when a 2007 Office suite is started for the first time

      1. Download the AdminTemplates.exe from the link given in the above article
      2. Extract the files as instructed in the above article
      3. Replace the files in the “Admin” folder of your installation share on the server
      4. Run the Office Customisation Tool

You can prevent participation by using Gpedit.

      Local Computer Policy
      Computer Configuration
      Administrative Templates
      Internet Explorer

on the right hand side find “Prevent performance of First Run Customize settings” and Enable it.

While I am here, for my users I also enable:
      Prevent “Fix settings” functionality
Which then pretty much require enable of
Turn off the Security Settings check feature

      I also enable:
Prevent performance of First Run customize settings. Setting the option to go directly to the home page.
