Does anyone know if there is a way to save a word or excel file to a postscript format, i.e. with a .ps, .eps or .psc extention. I tried print the file to a postscript printer but it still wants to create a .prn file.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 11, 2002 at 4:10 pm #630837Did you look at the prn file with a text editor to see what it was – I strongly suspect that it will have been a postscript file and could be renamed to .PS
I just tested this and the .PRN file started with the line
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 SDRT 0%%XRXbegin
and ended with the lines %%Pages: 1 (%%[LastPage]%%) = %%EOF 00%-12345@PJL EOJ 0%-12345X
Looks like postscript to me.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 11, 2002 at 6:34 pm #630872I currently have distiller running on the network. It is set up to recognized when postscript files are dropped in the IN directory, distiller runs, converts the file to pdf and copies it to an OUT box. When I rename the word .prn file to .eps, I get the following distiller error:
%%[ Error: Helvetica-Bold not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%Stack:
/Font
/Helvetica-Bold
true
/Type1
/Helvetica-Bold
0.93
/F0%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%I am not using Helvetica…I am using Arial fonts.
Do you have any ideas on how to get this to work in word or excel?
Thanks

I created a simple word document, just containing the text ABCD in Times New Roman font. I then printed this to a “Xerox Document Center 230 PS” printer on File, creating a .PRN file. I renamed the .PRN file and opened it from Distiller. It generated a number of error messages about fonts it didn’t have, but created an acceptable Acrobat output.
This is now beyond my knowledge of PostScript. Maybe some option on the print dialogue box?
