I intend to try W-10’s system restore to correct a problem I described in my post #2493435.

First, I can’t tell if, after starting WuMgr, there’s a way to turn it off after it’s downloaded and uncompacted in Public folder. I’ve opened it a few times after W10 startup by clicking its wumgr.exe file, does PC shutdown close it or is it always active? I also tried closing its app before shutdowns.

Now, 2 months after the problem caused by aborting a W10 update in order to install WuMgr, it hit me that the debris of the few aborted updates might be removed simply by W10 System Restore (the aborts list a code of 0x8024000b.) Does anyone know a reason why not? I suppose it would take out WuMgr app too? Sys restore has worked for me in so many W7 hitches over the years!

Meanwhile, later updates have been deferred/kept off in active hours on our 2 other W10 machines while hoping to resolve this test case gone awry on a reserve machine.

Thanks for whatever expertise/experience you can provide. I’m besieged with other tasks, so don’t expect a quick reply for a day or two.

    With advance thanks!

WuMgr is merely an interface to Windows Update. When you run it, it does nothing until you click a button. When you close it, it stops doing anything.

An aborted Windows Update should not cause any problems. It should resume where it left off.

A system restore “2 months later” will not be of any value as too much will have changed. Do not do this.

It’s not necessary to defer your other machines, we recommend installing all but the latest updates. Get them up to date and then go back to fixing the problem child.

      cheers, Paul
