In win7 I would find image backup in Control Panel / backup and restore. I cannot find this in win 8. How do I create an image backup in win 8?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMarch 26, 2012 at 4:20 pm #1326594Hmmm, well Clive, it appears the Backup and Restore feature is missing from Win 8 CP. Instead it has Refresh or Reset.
I still prefer the Imaging I have grown to love and use Acronis TIH. Others have had luck with their favorite Imaging app. I pop my Acronis Boot disk in, reboot to the disk and create an Image of both or either Win 7 and Win 8 CP.

AskWoody LoungerApril 10, 2012 at 8:28 pm #1328375Slides 12 and 13 for “ZDNet: 12 shortcuts and secrets for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview” cover this, especially since you need to counter-intuitively find “Windows 7 file recovery” instead of “backup“.
Also, to restore the image, you must create and use the Recovery drive. Get to the Advanced options screen and choose System Image Recovery.

In order to backup to a network drive or NAS you have to be using a version of Windows 7 above home premium. Like Win 7 Pro or ultimate.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 8, 2013 at 11:24 am #1366954Windows 8 Backup Image!
To create a backup image of your operating system go to:
Control Panel!
Select Windows 7 File Recovery
(Ignore the fact it states Windows 7; it applies to Windows 8)Top left hand corner, you will see the Administrator Icon, with Create a System image!
Connect your media, which you wish to back your operating system on, and click on Create a System image!
At the end of the process, you will be asked do you wish to create a Repair Disc; install a CD/DVD (Not re-writeable), and click Yes!
You can also produce, a Repair Flash drive (as an alternative to a Repair Disc), but this takes a different route:
Type Recovery Drive into the search window.
From the Settings option; select “Create A Recovery Drive”
A Window will appear, which allows you to create Repair Flash Drive!
Hope this helps

AskWoody LoungerApril 12, 2012 at 10:48 pm #1328782The link you sent was very informative, but did not seem to address my question of writing an image on a network drive.
I was posting a possible solution to the original thread topic by curiousclive, not necessarily your post in this thread. The original post had no mention of network drives…
Hopefully your conundrum (i.e. backing up to network drives) can also be solved…
Good luck!
