    I received 4 files from my brother who had received them from a friend: 1 mp4, 2 htm & 1 html.
    — I know they are safe to open because I went to his apartment to verify that is the case.
    There is a link to download all attachments as a zip file which I did.
    I can view the mp4 video. However, the htm & html files open into a blank screen.
    Same issue on both of my HP EliteBook 8540w laptop & Dell Inspiron 580 desktop.
    What do I need to do in order to view them?

    I looked up 7-Zip https://www.7-zip.org/.
    They have 2 options
    Download 7-Zip 19.00 (2019-02-21) for Windows:
    Download 7-Zip 20.00 alpha (2020-02-06) for Windows:
    Is 7-Zip the right app to use?
    Is the 7-Zip’s latest version 20.00 alpha (2020-02-06) for Windows OK to use even though it’s an alpha version?

      What is the file size of the htm/l files?  Are they of zero length, by any chance?  If so, get back to the sender – could be that the zipping process went wrong.  The default application for opening such files would normally be a browser.  What app is trying to open them?  Check by going to Settings > Apps > Default apps, and at the bottom click on “Choose default applications by file type”.  Then scroll down the list until you come to htm and html, where you should see your browser of choice – or should have the option to select it.  If that’s no good, display the files in File Explorer (or a similar program), right-click on one, and select “Open with”.  If you then don’t see the browser you wish to use, click “Choose another app” and select “More apps”.  That will give a more comprehensive list, but if you still don’t see what you want, select “Look for another app on this PC”, which will allow you to browse.  If or when you do find the right app, be sure to select “Always use this app to open htm (or html) files”.  That will set the default.

      HTML files are just text and you can view them in Notepad to see if they contain relevant data.

      Generally they look something like this at the start.

      <html>
      <head>
      <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
      <title>

      cheers, Paul

      If you are on Windows 10 there is a build-in .zip extraction and there is no need for 7-zip.
      Just right click the .zip file and select ‘extract all’.

      Regarding the htm/html check file associations.

      Thanks every one for your inputs.

      My HP EliteBook 8540w laptop is Windows 10 Pro version 1809 18363.900
      My Dell Inspiron 580 desktop is Windows 10 Home version 2004 19041.388

      My brother has the same problem also
      He has Dell Inspiron 3668 desktop only 3 years old Windows 10 Home version unknown.
      He also has an iPAD version unknown.

      Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait until the end of next week to get back on this issue.
